It's official! Elgin joining ESD #3
We are happy to announce that the City of Elgin and its ETJ within Bastrop County is joining the rest of the county as part of Bastrop County ESD #3.
The Board of Commissioners for the ESD met on November 14 to adopt an order canvassing the election results. With this action, it’s official! Voters in the annexed territory and the rest of the District voted overwhelmingly in favor of the annexation. As a result, EMS in Bastrop County will continue to be operated as a county-wide service, providing the most efficient and effective means of covering the county’s 896 square miles.
“We now have certainty as we plan for the transition to an ESD operated EMS,” said ESD Executive Director Allen Johnson. “We have fifteen new ambulances on order. We expect delivery to being in about ten months. We are deeply invested in transition planning and expect to begin recruiting EMS personnel in the Spring.”
Until the new District operated EMS is ready, Acadian Ambulance will continue to provide service under the oversight of the District. “We have a good working relationship with Acadian. They operate under the performance standards the Board adopted. Together we are monitoring and adjusting operations,” Johnson stated.
Residents of the annexed area will begin accruing taxes in January. However, taxes will not be due until October 2026.
