ESD ASSUMES OVESIGHT OF LOCAL EMS SYSTEM

Bastrop, Texas – May 30, 2025

Bastrop County Commissioners Court and Acadian Ambulance have agreed to assign the long-time EMS service contract to the newly formed Bastrop County Emergency Services District #3.   This action enables the District to partner with Acadian to enhance service delivery in the rapidly growing county just east of Austin.

Acadian has provided EMS service through a zero-subsidy contract with Bastrop County for almost ten years.  The District was approved by voters last November with the goal of funding additional EMS units, reducing response times and advancing clinical care.   Acadian currently deploys four ambulances across the county, with stations in Bastrop, Smithville, Elgin and Cedar Creek.  Under a proposed contract extension, Acadian would deploy five 24-hour and two 12-hour ambulances along with a 24-hour clinical supervisor.   The proposal also includes new clinical and operational performance standards.

“For years, we’ve recognized the need for more ambulances to meet the demand,” said Ron Quaranto, Regional Vice President for Acadian. “We’re excited to collaborate with ESD #3 on a service model that will increase capacity and improve patient care throughout Bastrop County.”

“This marks an important milestone for Bastrop County,” said County Judge Gregory Klaus. “Commissioners Court appointed a strong leadership team of EMS professionals and community experts to guide the new ESD. Their oversight will ensure continued excellence and innovation in emergency services.”

According to ESD Board President James “Scooter” Green, “a group of informed citizens worked hard to create the ESD.  This is the first step in realizing their vision of a cost effective, innovative approach to out-of-hospital healthcare that not only catches up with the current County needs, but scales as the county grows.  We appreciate the County’s support and look forward to a collaborative relationship with the Acadian team.

Acadian and the ESD expect to finalize the contract extension in the coming days.
